Cameras

Early on I became frustrated with the limitations of the 35mm camera. Being introduced to the Polaroid camera and to pinhole photography broadened my understanding of the process and potential inherent in that process. During a residency at Visual Studies Workshop I created a series of Pinhole Camera Purses, then began using other objects that reflected the imagery I planned to photograph, such as “The Bible With Two Points of View.”  Later, with a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Rockefeller Foundation, I built Pinky’s Portable Pop-up Camera and Darkroom that I used to make giant paper negatives. It also served as a walk-in camera obscure for educational purposes.
